Color with Collars

This editorial caught my eye because the outfits are mostly based on simple clean lines and a color palate that's very basic and predictable for fall. The attention grabbing factor here comes from the beautiful and eye catching colored accessories such as gloves and handbags along with simple collars. There are ultra bright bags or gloves in this editorial such as orange and reds but also more subdued sorbet-like shades such as mint and strawberry. Color for fall is unusual but it can put a smile on your face because color can lighten up your dark days. The best way to add color is through accessories and keeping your outfits on a more neutral, earthy or black and white side because accessories are easier to maintain, last longer, more affordable (depending on where you shop) and very easy to play mix-and-match with various outfits from your closet. Rachel Zoe's "Zoe Report" for today focussed on the beauty of adding bright colored accessories to your ensemble and featured a beautiful citrusy yellow hued Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Leather Clutch.

Colorful Bags on the Fall 2011 Runway

I absolutely love how the colored accessories here are paired with collars and the details on the outfits are simple but still interesting. I love the delicate simple slits, sharper high-low hemlines, not so structured peplum, punched out cut-outs on the collar, textured sleeves and other details that inject a modern sophisticated appeal to the outfits. I found a DIY for the collar that's close to the collar that you see in the first picture. Take a look at the picture below.

Looks pretty easy to make, don't you think?  If you do try, let me know how it turned out. Would you try colorful bags and gloves with collars?  Would love to hear from you.
